Dislocation-mediated plasticity in the Al2Cu θ-phase

چکیده

The deformation behaviour of the intermetallic Al$_{2}$Cu-phase was investigated using atomistic simulations and micropillar compression, where slip on unexpected {211} {022} planes revealed. Additionally, all possible systems for phases were further evaluated a preference activation based their effective interplanar distances as well Burgers vector is proposed. distance corresponds to manually determined distance, whereas takes potential dislocation dissociation into account. This new order is: {211}1/2<111>, {022}1/2<111> {022}<100>, {110}<001>, {310}<001>, {022}<011>, {110}1/2<111>, {112}<110> {112}1/2<111> from high low ratio deff/beff. Also, data critical resolved shear stresses several these measured.

Unravelling the physics of size-dependent dislocation-mediated plasticity

Size-affected dislocation-mediated plasticity is important in a wide range of materials and technologies. Here we develop a generalized size-dependent dislocation-based model that predicts strength as a function of crystal/grain size and the dislocation density. Three-dimensional (3D) discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) simulations reveal the existence of a well-defined relationship between str...

Dislocation Plasticity: Overview

An arbitrary deformation of a material can always be described as the sum of a change in volume and a change in shape at constant volume (shear). Assuming constant structure, the change in volume is recovered when the load is removed, since the atoms can simply relax back to their equilibrium sizes. The change in shape, on the other hand, may or may not be recovered, since the atoms can relax i...

Local decomposition induced by dislocation motions inside tetragonal Al2Cu compound: slip system-dependent dynamics

Dislocations in a crystal are usually classified into several independent slip systems. Motion of a partial dislocation in monometallic crystals may remove or create stacking fault characterized with a partial of a lattice translation vector. However, it is recently known that motion of partial dislocations in complex structure, such as that inside an intermetallic Al2Cu compound, lead to a loc...

Intermittent dislocation density fluctuations in crystal plasticity from a phase-field crystal model.

Plastic deformation mediated by collective dislocation dynamics is investigated in the two-dimensional phase-field crystal model of sheared single crystals. We find that intermittent fluctuations in the dislocation population number accompany bursts in the plastic strain-rate fluctuations. Dislocation number fluctuations exhibit a power-law spectral density 1/f2 at high frequencies f. The proba...
